Tyrin Terrell Colbert

March 16, 1998 – February 18, 2016

Tyrin Terrell Colbert was born on March 16, 1998 to Hosey and Shantita Colbert. He was a brother of Hossana Colbert. Tyrin loved his family very much, who affectionately referred to him as “T-man.” He loved to sing and dance. His favorite songs to sign were “Every Praise” by Hezekiah Walker and “This Means War” by Pastor Charles Jenkins. He also loved worshiping and dancing in church.

Tyrin died in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on February 18, 2016. He was 17 years old, one month shy of turning 18. A former teacher of Tyrin stated on his obituary page how she can remember when he would come by her desk in the mornings and wish her a good morning, making it a point to ensure she knew he was at school.

While I couldn’t speak directly with his family, posts on social media show that he was loved.  His family cared about him deeply and mourned his passing. On his eighteenth birthday, Tyrin’s mother made a social media post about her son. She wrote about how Tyrin would have gotten a job, finished school, and learned how to drive. In the years since his untimely departure, Tyrin’s birthday has served as a reminder of his life and spirit. His mother imagines her son smiling and dancing in heaven while watching over his family. She takes comfort in knowing that he is with God and would not want his family to dwell in sadness, but rather to keep his spirit alive by enjoying life.

Tyrin is remembered by his family as a loving son and brother. While his time was cut short, his memory will be cherished for a long time to come.
