Marty James Brown, Jr.
June 10, 1999 – July 22, 2024
Marty James Brown, Jr., affectionately known by his family and friends as “James,” was born on June 10, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland. His family cherishes his birthplace as the place where their family began. James was named after his father, Marty Brown Sr., and took after him in many other ways. James enjoyed fixing cars, houses, and really anything that anyone asked him for, a skill his father taught him from a young age. James loved everything music: he sang, danced, and freestyled. James’s father passed down a love of soul music, including Heatwave’s “Always and Forever.” The lyrics begin “always and forever, each moment with you, is like a dream to me.”
James was cherished by his six sisters. They miss his loving words and caring spirit. Even at a young age, James took care of the people around him, especially his sisters, nieces, and nephews. James spent most of his time with the people he loved, and he always made them laugh.
James attended Columbia High School in Columbia, South Carolina, where he met faithful friends and enjoyed his teenage years. It is unclear how he finished his academic career.
Public records and online searches yielded little information about James’ life, notwithstanding numerous articles about his tragic death. James passed away on July 22, 2024, at 25. James’s death and the investigation into it caused emotional and financial strain on the family.
James’ sisters remember and miss their beloved brother. James’ older sister, Martisha Brown, posts a collage of family photos on James’ birthday each year, expressing her and her sisters’ eternal sadness from the loss of their only brother.
Despite his struggles, James always put the family first and would “give his last dollar” to them. His family wishes James were here to comfort them in this most difficult time.
